Tell your reps to ban the box!
Once someone’s served a criminal sentence, their punishment should end there. Unfortunately, across the country, people with prior convictions are routinely denied jobs once their employer discovers their history, no matter how qualified they are.
“Ban the Box” policies, already implemented in 28 states, seek to change this by delaying the conviction history question until much later in the hiring process. Meanwhile, the remaining 22 states are late to the game, and haven’t yet passed this common-sense reform. If your state isn’t on the list linked above, it’s on you to help change that.
Jobs should be accessible to everyone, regardless of one’s past. So tell your state reps: ban the box in your state!
All applicants should get a fair shot of being hired, regardless of their past.
