Support the Employer Participation in Repayment Act!
Imagine this: your employer pays your student loans, and neither you nor your employer gets taxed on any of that money. Sounds sweet, right?
Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Mark Warner (D-VA) and Reps. Scott Peters (D-CA) and Rodney Davis (R-IL) are working to make that happen, with their recently introduced Employer Participation in Repayment Act. If passed, employers would be offered a tax credit to help pay down their employees’ student debt. 💯
Specifically, the bill would expand the tax exclusion for employer-provided educational assistance to include payments of qualified education loans by an employer to either an employee or a lender.
The bill has strong bipartisan support in both chambers with 143 cosponsors in the House and 28 in the Senate.
AYA is lobbying hard in D.C. to make sure this bill passes, but we need your help. Tell your reps to support the Employer Participation in Repayment Act!
TL;DR?
